This is a tutorial that should teach you how to install the mods you download from the Director's Cut Modding Foundry. Once you understand the basics you can apply the foundation to any website's downloads. This is for downloading my mods, but should slowly learn how to apply it to other mods as most people have the download folder, like myself, as "data". Ultimatley you're extracting to "The Movies" folder.

First, click the "download" part of the upper menu, click "TigerEyes's Mods" and then you'll come up on this page.

Click the name of the set, I chose my favorite set up there Smiley , and a window will pop up if you have a rar converter installed. The window should look like the window shown below.

Simply click "Open" [NOT Save] and it will take a few moments to download the files. Then another window will pop up on the screen.

This is telling you what you want to do with the downloaded files, so, click the "extract" option. Now it will bring a filepath selection window.

First, select the (C: ) drive. You do this by clicking the small "+" icon next to the name of the folder. So, click that plus and it will drop down a few option. Click the "+" next to "Program Files"

And then the "+" next to "Lionhead Studios LTD"

Now left click "The Movies" folder.

Your screen should look like the screen above, if you've left clicked The Movies folder then click "Ok" and it will extract your files to the folder, thus installing the mod.

If it prompts you to overight things, then choose which to click. Some mods will overwrite original game files, I advise you back up all your files before installing mods or overwriting files! But, if you click "No" then some mods may not install properly.

After you have gotten past the prompt [usually there isn't one] then the set is installed in your game, go try it out.

If you want to understand more about mod installation, read this

I've followed the directions as given.  When I restart the Movies SE the new set is there but when I go to place it there is no picture or boundary for it and the game acts as if it is there (I can't place another structure on it)--the set is invisible and I cannot use or access it.  There is not even the usual yellow border to let you know if it will fit in the spot--it basically is an unusable set with no boundaries.  I've tried it with many other sets--same thing happens.

Please help and respond soon, as I want to get playing.

The problem is with the "Set" files. Go into "programfiles/lionheadstudiosltd/themovies/data/sets" and make sure there is a set ini file created, if not, then try to place it there manually from the set folder. Or, if it is there make sure that when you open the set, the name appears the same as the msh file also included in the download. See this for a small outline.

As for applying this to other sites, from the pop-up download guide on, it should be the same. Saying "I need help" doesn't help me help you, if you clearly outline what parts didn't make sense, what parts you were stuck on, etc, then I can help. Screenshots, details, all of those help others' solve the problem.

Hi Tiger, love your stuff man :-)

I've got a question for you though on mod installation. is there a way to apply a set mod without losing the original set? How do I identify the old mod files to back them up? I know that's a dumb question but not sure where they are located in the original Movies game files.

And where are the links to all of the DCMF mods? I only found a few. :-(

Hi stvndysn,

First thank you for that link. It did help. But, I can't get the .NET program to work. I understood everything up until the hex editor.

I basically just want to install a mod set to film the next scene of my movie w/o losing the set it overwrites. Does that make sense?

actually I tried to install .NET before anything but it would not install, something in the program doesn't like Windows XP. I think .NET is trying to overwrite some XP files or something?

If the file you're downloading is a ZIP file, then no.  If it is a RAR file then yes.  WinRAR is your best bet for .RAR files.

You can't be telling me you've never unzipped a file before...
If that's what's got you stuck...  then I am unsure you want to pursue this modding stuff...  Lips sealed
The technical skillz curve gets waay steeper than that, really fast!   Shocked

Often, you'll need to understand the CONCEPTS that are being discussed here, not simply expect that you can always follow things step-by-step and magically it all works out.  Everyone's computer is different with different software, hardware, etc.  so at the very least, you'll need to be able to cope with variations or unexpected results...

Good luck!  Undecided
